Click, Clack, Peep! written by Doreen Cronin and illustrated by Betsy Lewin (2015)
The animals in Farmer Brown’s barn are too quiet. They are waiting for an egg to hatch. And when it does, Baby Duck keeps everyone awake with his ‘peep peep peep’ all night long. The animals try singing, lowering the shades, and knitting a blanket, but Baby Duck does not go to sleep. So the animals go outside to sleep. But Duck does something different. Duck puts Baby Duck into a bucket and covers him with a blanket. Then Duck puts the bucket on the tractor and drives back and forth, back and forth, until Baby Duck falls asleep. The next morning, Farmer Brown wakes up and doesn’t hear a peep…Ahhhh, but then he sees what Duck has done to his lawn.
What’s your little duck’s bedtime routine? Bath, jammies, story, cuddle… sleep.
Sometimes, as Duck learned, it’s not so easy!
Maybe a little ritual chant or prayer that your child can join in with, will help get the evening off to a good night.
