M – Mostly Monsterly

Mostly Monsterly written by Tammi Sauer and illustrated by Scott Magoon (2015)

Bernadette seemed very monsterly on the outside…but on the inside, Bernadette was just a little too sweet. She had trouble fitting in at school too. She didn’t lurch, or growl, or create mayhem. And her group hugs and cupcake treats didn’t go over so well with the other monsters. Finally, Bernadette had a wonderful idea – she made cards for all her new monster friends… nice with a touch of gross. Eventually, she learned to act more monsterly, but sometimes she was just herself.

I just love that Bernadette is a sweet monster! Sometimes our little ones try so hard to be rough and tough to meet social expectations. It’s great to just be yourself! And if you happen to have the little ‘monster’ who is trying so hard to be nice, you know that’s not as easy as it looks either.

Make someone’s day with a treat that’s both monsterly and sweet!
