May 16 – National Biographer’s Day

Happy Biographer’s Day!

Today we celebrate the biographers who teach us about famous people and give us a glimpse into their lives through biographies. Biographies for children are an important way to teach history of people and their accomplishments in life. They range in difficulty from the simplest text to very complex ideas and narratives. Below are several picture book biographies, just to give you an idea of the scope and subject matter available in the children’s department. There are also numerous biographies of television, film, and music celebrities, sports heroes, religious leaders, and just about anyone else you can name.

There are SO many more wonderful biographies for children now than when I was a kid, and they are so much more engaging for their intended audiences. Thank you, biography writers!

You are so right! When I was younger, there were mostly just presidents and inventors. There is a much wider selection for kids today!
